Chin Augmentation Procedure
If done alone or in combination with submental liposuction, chin implant surgery is usually done under local anesthesia with sedation. If combined with a rhinoplasty, it is usually performed under general anesthetic.
An incision is made either inside the mouth in the area between the lip and the front teeth or underneath the chin. The choice of incision location depends on the specific technique used and the patient’s anatomy. Careful dissection is done to create a pocket for the implant. After a pocket is carefully created, the implant is placed and sutured in an optimal position. If an incision was made in the mouth, it is closed with self-dissolving sutures. The incision underneath the chin is closed with non-dissolvable sutures, and Dr Dadgostar takes care to ensure minimal scarring. A dressing tape is put on the outside of the chin at the end of the procedure.
In submental liposuction, a small incision is made in the crease under the chin and behind each ear. A liposuction cannula is put under the skin and the fat in this area is carefully removed. The small incisions are closed with one or two very small sutures.
Recovery and Post-Operative Care

Bruising over the chin usually resolves within one week after the surgery. Most noticeable swelling resolves within the first two weeks and minor swelling resolves gradually over the next few months.
